Windward Offshore welcomes new CSOV

The Hamburg-based shipping joint venture Windward Offshore has taken delivery of four specialised offshore wind vessels within twelve months. The third vessel in the series has now been christened at Hamburg’s Überseebrücke.

Windward Offshore, a joint venture run by the Rickmers family of Hamburg, recently christened its specialised offshore wind vessel, the “Windward Munich”, in Hamburg. Built by Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, the new vessel is the shipping company’s third Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) and the first of two vessels in its fleet to feature a helicopter landing deck.

“Commitment to the German energy transition”

“Hamburg is not only the place where the idea for our company was born, but also the location of our corporate headquarters – a clear commitment to the German energy transition. As one of Europe’s leading maritime centres and the German heart of the offshore wind industry, Hamburg is the ideal place to welcome the ‘Windward Munich’ into our growing fleet,” says Bastian Hagebeuker, Managing Director of Windward Offshore.

The “Windward Munich” follows the “Windward Athens”, delivered in September 2025, and the “Windward Paris” taken over in January 2026. According to the shipping company, all three vessels commenced their charter operations shortly after delivery.

With the delivery of the fourth sister vessel, the “Windward Hamburg”, in August, Windward Offshore has taken delivery of four CSOVs within twelve months. According to the company, the ‘Windward Hamburg’ is currently en route to Europe and is due to commence operations shortly after its arrival.
