Wärtsilä supplies simulator to training center

One of the most advanced simulators in Europe will in future be available at the new maritime training facility in Kotka, Finland.

On behalf of the South-East Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) and the Kotka-Hamina Joint Education Authority (Ekami), technology group Wärtsilä is supplying its state-of-the-art simulator technology for a new maritime training center[ds_preview] to be built on the new Xamk campus in Kotka, where some of Ekami’s maritime training will take place in the future.

Latest versions of simulation software from Wärtsilä

The simulator will be equipped with the latest versions of Wärtsilä’s simulation software “Navi-Trainer Professional” and “Techsim” as well as the latest bridge systems “Navi Sailor” and “Nacos Platinum”. This includes multi-pilot workstations for the electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) as well as radar and command systems.

Two large and three medium-sized navigation bridges

The training center will have two large and three medium-sized navigation bridges with 360-degree visualization. They will include digital chart tables and a separate bridge console operated in virtual reality. For technical training, the center will have two engine room simulators equipped with two fully equipped control rooms. The simulators are equipped with touchscreen technology, making it easy to switch between the individual engine room models.

In addition to the various system functions, there will be several instructor and debriefing rooms that can work with any part of the simulator. There will also be a dedicated command center for vessel traffic services, oil spill response, search and rescue, terminal cargo office and other training applications.
