The Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has been selected as a supplier of propulsion technology via its joint venture company CWEC, based in Shanghai.

The order comprises four Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel auxiliary engines. They are destined for the sixth and final vessel in a series of six newbuildings of 175,000 m3 LNG carriers[ds_preview].

The 34DF engine was selected along with a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction package as it offers both higher performance and lower emissions, the manufacturer said. It will also deliver a similar scope of solutions for the other five vessels in the series.

The LNG carriers will be built at the Jiangnan Shipyard in China for ADNOC Logistics & Services, a global leader in maritime energy logistics.

“We are honored to have been awarded the contract to supply engines for this important series of six modern LNG carriers,” said Rajan Khanna, sales manager for the Middle East. “The Wärtsilä 34DF engine will help ADNOC Logistics & Services’ LNG carriers achieve lower energy consumption, reduced emissions, lower operating costs and minimize methane slip when operating on LNG.”

In addition to the engines, the propulsion specialist will also supply the shaft seals for the LNG tankers. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
