Ralf Sören Marquardt, Managing Director of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM) for many years, has died. The association has announced.
“We mourn the loss of our long-standing Managing Director Dr. Ralf Sören Marquardt. He fought his long and serious illness with great courage and dignity,” said the VSM.
Ralf Sören Marquardt “was a great, intelligent and committed colleague – a shipbuilder with heart and soul. In this time of pause, we remember his many valuable contributions and the inspiring moments we were able to share with him,” the association said in a statement.
Marquardt was with VSM for 25 years
As a long-standing accredited representative of the European shipbuilding industry at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Marquardt enjoyed an excellent international reputation. The Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association and the entire industry owe him a great debt of gratitude. “We will honour his memory and look back with gratitude on the many hours we spent together,” the association continued.
Ralf Sören Marquardt studied shipbuilding at the University of Hamburg, where he also completed his doctorate. He worked for the VSM for around 25 years. Marquardt headed the association together with Managing Director Reinhard Lüken and Managing Director Christian Schilling.
