The foundation stone for a new Vestas production facility was laid in a festive ceremony in Szczecin.
In addition to representatives from business and politics, the Danish King Frederick X was also present. The manufacturer of offshore components announced its plan to build a new nacelle factory for offshore wind turbines in Szczecin in October 2022. In doing so, the company aims to meet the rapid growth in offshore wind energy.
Vestas creates up to 1,700 jobs
The plant in Szczecin will assemble nacelles and hubs for Vestas’ flagship turbine, the V236-15.0 MW. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2025 and will directly create 700 jobs. The factory will serve domestic and global demand and play a key role in supporting the Polish offshore wind sector.
In addition, Vestas plans to open another wind turbine blade production facility at the same location. Poland’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Arkadiusz Marchewka, said at the groundbreaking ceremony that this will create more than 1,700 new jobs in Szczecin.
“I can assure you that Poland is committed to the further development of offshore wind energy. The new investments, together with the installation port in Świnoujście, will be a strategic element of the transition to green energy, strengthening our energy security and protecting the environment,” said Marchewka.
