United Heavy Transport launches strategic alliance with Dongbang

The shipping company United Heavy Transport, part of the Hamburg-based UHL Group, has found a new partner. A strategic alliance has been set up for the deck carrier segment.

United Heavy Transport has signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” with Dongbang Transport Logistics from South Korea[ds_preview].

The alliance should “lead to a long and close cooperation”, UHT announced today. It involves the integration of UHT’s heavy lift expertise and Dongbang’s experience in the field of open deck carriers.

“In this strategic alliance, UHT together with United Engineering Solutions and Dongbang combine their strengths by combining the expertise of Heavy Lift Vessels (HLV) with Heavy Transport Vessels (HTV). The Memorandum of Understanding is more than a signature; it is a commitment to a shared vision of a lasting collaboration that delivers fully integrated maritime project management solutions for modular marine transportation,” said UHT Managing Director Andreas Rolner.

New partner for United Heavy Transport

This is not the first partnership with an Asian player for UHT. The company from the group, which also includes the shipping company United Heavy Lift (UHL), has been responsible for the commercial management of Guangzhou Salvage’s semi-submersibles since 2018. Last year, however, the Chinese withdrew the ships and entered into a partnership with Cosco.

Dongbang Transport Logistics describes itself as an integrated logistics company operating in the fields of inland and sea transportation, 3rd party logistics, cargo handling, freight forwarding, warehousing, installation and ferries. The fleet of deck carriers comprises seven vessels.

The agreement that has now been concluded reportedly outlines a targeted strategy for cooperation on major projects. “Dongbang Managing Director Kris Bae said: “The collaboration between UHT and Dongbang is based on a strategic vision underpinned by UHT’s expertise in project management and Dongbang’s experience in operating open deck carriers. The focused strategy outlined in the agreement not only increases synergies, but also positions this alliance as a resilient force that dynamically adapts in the industry.”
