Shortsea container carrier Unifeeder, part of the Arab DP World Group, is driving its geographical expansion with the opening of a new office in Panama.
Unifeeder announced today that it is opening an office in Panama City. “This latest investment follows the opening of new routes throughout Latin America as the company seeks to promote trade and boost economic growth in the region,” the carrier, which was founded in 1977 and has a strong presence in this country, announced today.[ds_preview]
The Unifeeder Group, which also works closely with German shipping companies, says it operates more than 150 ships and transports more than 5.5 million containers every year. The group has been owned by DP World since 2018. Since October 2022, the Arab parent company has introduced 19 new shipping routes. Latin America in particular is currently seen as an important growth market.
Morten Johansen, EVP Americas, DP World, emphasized today: “Latin America is home to large emerging markets and rich natural resources, especially agricultural products. It is therefore an important logistics and supply chain center for the regional and global economy. As DP World continues to expand in the region, the opening of our first office in Panama and the launch of new feeder services are an important step in our strategy to become the preferred logistics partner in the region.”
New Unifeeder services in Latin America
Unifeeder’s latest expansion in the region started in 2023 and is part of the strategic focus on the Americas: In March 2023, the Hispaniola-Puerto Rico service was launched, followed by a Colombia-Panama service in February this year and new direct feeder services connecting ports in Venezuela with the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) in April.
Jesper Kristensen, Group CEO of Unifeeder Group and Group COO Marine Services at DP World, said today: “By opening offices in key markets such as Panama and launching new direct feeder services, we can not only offer our customers improved logistics options, but also have a positive impact on the local economy.”
