T&T In Situ Machining to present onsite repair tech at SMM

“As good as I am, I’m nothing without my band.” The quote by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler also reflects the reality of ship repair. Returning a vessel to service requires the coordinated work of many specialists. Since 1997, T&T In Situ Machining has specialised in onsite measurement and machining of ship components as part of that process.

Every assignment is different. While some components can be removed and repaired in a workshop, others must remain in the engine room, and propulsion train alignment can only be carried out in the installed condition. T&T therefore brings its measurement and machining equipment directly to the vessel, wherever it is located.

According to the company, measurement and machining are always carried out by the same team. The engineers who determine the condition of a component also perform the required machining, creating a continuous workflow from the initial measurement through to the finished surface.

The portfolio covers the complete process from measurement to machining. Two-dimensional laser alignment is used for straightness, flatness, ovality and belt alignment, while three-dimensional laser tracking enables six-degree-of-freedom measurements, surface scanning, deformation measurement, component positioning during installation and the marking of hole patterns, for example on flange faces for pod propulsion units. Reverse engineering is also part of the service portfolio. The subsequent onsite machining includes line boring, milling, flange facing, drilling and tapping.

According to T&T In Situ Machining, customers benefit from a single point of contact throughout the entire process, from measurement and machining to final documentation.
