The German shipbuilder TKMS is setting up a partnership with the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems. The aim is to use their respective expertise for joint solutions.
TKMS and Elbit Systems have signed a strategic letter of intent to this end. The aim is to “explore cooperation potential in the development, integration and marketing of advanced defense solutions for the navy”. The two companies intend to use their complementary technological, operational and industrial expertise to overcome current and future challenges in the field of maritime defense, according to a statement on the signing.
“Our trusted international partnership with Elbit Systems once again underlines the commitment to jointly tackle changing challenges in the field of maritime security. By combining our respective strengths, we are advancing technological capabilities while strengthening the strategic relationship between Germany and Israel. In today’s complex security environment, close cooperation between like-minded partners is essential to ensure stability and resilience,” said TKMS CEO Oliver Burkhard.
Elbit Systems employs over 20,000 people across five continents. The company reported sales of $7.9 billion and an order backlog of $28.1 billion for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.
Beyond an industrial partnership, the Memorandum of Understanding reflects a broader strategic alignment between Germany and Israel. The aim is to strengthen long-term bilateral relations in order to contribute to a broader framework for international defense cooperation in an increasingly complex global environment.
“As we continue to expand our capabilities in the maritime field, I am proud to further deepen our cooperation with TKMS – a global leader in naval systems with an outstanding tradition of innovation, technical excellence and long-standing contribution to maritime security,” said Bezhalel Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems. “By combining the technological strengths and operational experience of both companies, we aim to deliver advanced solutions that meet the evolving needs of naval forces, while further strengthening the strategic partnership and close cooperation between Germany and Israel in support of regional and global security.”
