Tailwind expands Northern Europe service with Ernst Russ ship

Tailwind Shipping Lines is increasing the frequency of its shuttle service between Barcelona and Moerdijk. This is made possible by the addition of another ship.

Tailwind Shipping Lines is adding an additional ship to the “Dolphin Express”, thereby significantly increasing the frequency of departures. The new addition to the round trip is the Feedermax “Solong” (built in 2005, Damen Galati) with a capacity of 803 TEU, which sailed from Moerdijk for the first time ten days ago. She is chartered by Ernst Russ.

The German shipping company, which is backed by the Lidl discount chain, is thus increasing the frequency of departures from once a week to once every five days.

Tailwind brings cargo to Northern Europe with “Dolphin”

The so-called “DEX2” service was launched by Tailwind at the beginning of the year in order to allow the “Panda” Far East service to turn in Barcelona. This was in response to the longer transit times caused by the rerouting of ships around the Cape of Good Hope.

Tailwind uses the “Dolphin Express” to transport mainly non-food cargo for the Lidl stores in Northern Europe, which comes to Barcelona on the fortnightly Far East-Europe service. The Panda Express service (PAX) runs between China (Qingdao, Ningbo and Dachan Bay) and the Mediterranean (Barcelona). In addition, there is the Tiger Express Service (TEX) between Chattogram in Bangladesh and Colombo in Sri Lanka as a feeder for the PAX, which picks up cargo from Bangladesh to Colombo.

With a current total of nine ships with capacities between around 920 TEU and 6,800 TEU, the Tailwind fleet now has a total ship capacity of over 35,000 TEU two years after the shipping company was founded. Most recently, the “Panda 04”, another new Elbdeich vessel with a capacity of 1,400 TEU, was put into charter.
