The World Shipping Council (WSC), which represents the interests of the liner shipping companies, has elected the CEO of MSC, Søren Toft, as its new Chairman.
Toft and newly elected Vice Chairman Randy Chen, CEO of Wan Hai (Taiwan), replace Rolf Habben Jansen of Hapag-Lloyd and Jeremy Nixon of Ocean Network Express (ONE), who had served together as WSC Co-Chairmen since the end of 2020.
The WSC is thus returning to the model of an undivided chairmanship. Until four years ago, Ron Widdows held the position for more than a decade.
“I look forward to working with Søren Toft and Randy Chen in their new roles,” said Joe Kramek, President and CEO of the WSC. “Their experience and expertise will be instrumental in further developing the World Shipping Council as the collective voice of the liner shipping industry,” said Kramek.
Toft has been CEO of liner shipping giant MSC since December 2020. Before joining MSC, he was COO and member of the board at Danish shipping group AP Møller-Maersk.
