The shipping group Hartmann from Leer has brought the software developer Sealogic on board to digitalize its ship management. This involves an “extended partnership”.
The Hartmann shipping company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cyprus-based developer Sealogic and described this as the “next phase of its long-term digital transformation program”. According to the MoU, the initial focus is on implementing a comprehensive suite of integrated ship management solutions. The aim is to position itself “at the forefront of modern data technologies in ship management” by using cloud-native systems, integrated workflows and real-time operational data to increase efficiency and transparency in fleet management.
The first step on this path was the introduction of Sealogic’s E-CMS (Electronic Crew Management System) across Hartmann Reederei’s entire fleet 18 months ago. The system replaced fragmented legacy systems and, according to the company, provided “a measurable leap in quality and greater consistency in crew management processes” – from checking the validity of certificates and managing rest periods to personnel planning and document workflows.
Hartmann Reederei – consisting of the companies Hartmann Shipping Services Germany, Hartmann Gas Carriers Germany and Hartmann Dry Cargo Germany – is headquartered in Leer, Germany and is part of the Hartmann Group. Founded in 1981 by Captain Alfred Hartmann, the company offers services such as the technical and commercial management of its own ships and management for third parties (third-party management).
“The E-CMS has already proven its value for our daily operations in the first few months of use,” said Captain Georg Haase of Hartmann Reederei. “When we evaluated which partner should support us in the next stages of our digital roadmap, the choice was clear. Sealogic consistently impressed with quality, responsiveness and a deep understanding of how ship management works in practice. There was no doubt who we would engage for the next steps.”
Under the new Memorandum of Understanding, Hartmann Reederei and Sealogic will now develop and implement further core modules in the coming phases, which together will form a fully integrated ship management system. “Our industry is changing faster than at any time in recent memory,” added Haase. “Regulatory requirements, crew expectations and competitive economic pressures are all pointing in the same direction: towards integrated, intelligent and reliable software. With Sealogic, we have a partner at our side who develops precisely for this reality.” The first new modules as part of the expanded partnership are expected to go into operational use in the Hartmann Reederei fleet in the course of 2026.
