This is the ship of a new “Saver” series. The freighters have a capacity of 7,000 TEU. The first newbuild of the type will sail under charter for the Japanese shipping alliance ONE of K Line, MOL and NYK. The maiden voyage under the Hong Kong flag began yesterday.

Seaspan has 147 ships in its order book

The 272.5 m long, 42.8 m wide freighter with a draught of 14.6 m was built in China by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Like its sisters ordered in April 2022, it is expected to cost USD 120 million.

Seaspan is the world’s largest trampreader of container ships. With 147 ships, 1.433 million TEU and a market share of 11.8%, it is well ahead of Shoei Kisen (616,000 TEU, 6.7%) from Japan and Zodiac (4.7%). It also has the largest order book in the industry: 47 freighters with a total of 529,000 TEU are still waiting to be delivered.
