With almost three decades of experience in ship design, Hamburg-based SDC Ship Design & Consult provides naval architecture and engineering services covering the entire vessel design process. At SMM 2026, the company will present its expertise in developing efficient ship concepts for a wide range of vessel types.
SDC supports shipowners and shipyards from the initial concept through to class approval. Its multidisciplinary team provides services including concept development, stability and structural calculations, class drawings, mechanical systems and electrical engineering.
A key focus is the development of practical and commercially viable vessel designs tailored to specific operational requirements. Particular emphasis is placed on reducing fuel consumption and emissions through optimised hull forms, efficient machinery concepts, alternative fuels and advanced propulsion technologies.
The company’s experience covers a broad range of vessel types, including chemical tankers, cement carriers, research vessels, passenger ships and vessels equipped with wind-assisted propulsion systems.
Among the highlights at SMM will be selected recent projects, including stainless steel chemical tanker designs that, according to SDC, achieve around 20% higher efficiency than the previous generation of vessels. The company will also showcase modern cement carrier concepts and propulsion solutions developed to improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions.
SDC works closely with HSVA on hydrodynamic optimisation, research and technology development. This cooperation supports the continuous refinement of hull designs and propulsion concepts for future ship projects.
Visitors to the SDC stand can learn more about the company’s integrated design approach and its latest developments in efficient commercial vessel design.
