Reintjes wins gearbox order in China

German propulsion specialist Reintjes has secured a gearbox supply contract with Guangzhou Shunhai Shipyards in China, marking the first cooperation between the two companies in a decade.

The Hameln-based company will supply two WAF665L gearboxes for a 57.2-m diving support and work vessel (Hull No. SH214) under construction for Abu Dhabi-based offshore service provider Al Mutawa Marine Works.

According to Reintjes, Guangzhou Shunhai Shipyards had sourced comparable gearboxes from another supplier over the past ten years. The new order is seen as a strategic step for the company in the offshore vessel segment.

The vessel is intended for offshore operations in the Middle East. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
