The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has a new member: the Polish Shipowners’ Association will be represented on the board and in the committees in future.
The ICS has announced that the Polish Shipping Association (PSA) will join the association as a full member. This will further promote international cooperation in the shipping industry and strengthen the role of the ICS as the global voice of shipowners.
The PSA represents Polish shipping companies and shipowners and plays a key role in shaping the development and progress of the Polish merchant fleet and the Polish maritime industry. With a gross value added of €3.5 billion, the sector contributes to the country’s overall economy. The Polish Shipowners’ Association joining the ICS community underlines “once again” the commitment of the ICS to represent a broad and truly global shipping community.
The Polish Shipping Association is a joint representation of the Związek Armatorów Polskich (ZAP), the Association of Polish Shipowners, and the Polish Shipping Companies Association (PZPZ).
“We are delighted to welcome the Polish Shipowners’ Association to our ranks,” said Thomas A. Kazakos, Secretary General of the ICS. “Poland’s significant maritime presence plays a crucial role in global trade and logistics. We look forward to working together on our collective challenges – including decarbonization, seafarers’ safety and welfare, and digitalization. As an industry, we need to work closely together to find the global solutions needed to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of our industry for generations to come. Collaboration creates opportunities, and together with our members we are ideally placed to achieve this goal.”
The accession of the Polish Shipowners’ Association – represented by a joint delegation of two Polish shipping organizations – to the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London marks a significant step towards strengthening the international representation of Polish shipowners’ interests, explained Marcin Talwik, Director of the PSA. “As the world’s leading umbrella organization for the shipping industry, the ICS shapes key policy frameworks in the areas of regulation, safety and decarbonization, giving Polish shipowners a direct voice in global decision-making processes,” he said. “This step opens up access to strategic expertise, best practices and high-level industry networks, while at the same time consolidating the global position of the Polish maritime sector. The joint membership of the Polish Shipowners’ Association (ZAP) and the Polish Shipowners’ Association (PZPZ) in ICS – which follows their earlier membership of ECSA – underlines the unity and global ambitions of the sector.”
The ICS membership is made up of national shipowners’ associations from around the world – from over 40 countries and territories in Asia, Europe, North and South America and Africa – representing the vast majority of the world’s merchant fleet. Germany – represented by the VDR – is also a full member of the association.
