The Canadian company Seaspan immediately found a charter customer for its recently ordered newbuildings. It is the liner shipping company OOCL from Hong Kong.
The order is for six container ships, each with a capacity of 13,600 TEU. They are being built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), which also developed the design. Delivery of the six ships is planned between 2026 and 2028.
OOCL focuses on alternative fuels
Hong Kong-based OOCL (Orient Overseas Container Line), part of the Chinese Cosco Group, has secured this modern tonnage, which is designed for efficiency and environmental friendliness. The 336-metre-long ships are equipped with scrubbers and are prepared for the use of alternative fuels.
The term of the contract that has now been concluded is exceptionally long. The ships will remain in service with the liner shipping company for 15 years. According to the information provided, the costs amount to a total of RMB11.2bn (US$1.57bn). This is based on a leasing contract with Seaspan.
