Two years after the liner shipping company ONE joined Seaspan, the two companies are pooling their ship management activities.
The Japanese liner operator Ocean Network Express (ONE) and the Canadian charter ship provider Seaspan have founded a joint venture for technical management. In future, Onesa Solutions will provide technical support for both ONE’s own fleet and the liner shipping company’s charter fleet.
Since joining Seaspan, ONE has held 28.7% of the shares in the holding company. Seaspan already charters a large fleet of container ships with a capacity of 7,000 TEU to 15,000 TEU to the Japanese partner.
ONE and Seaspan focus on synergies
Raman Handa, former Fleet Manager of Seaspan Ship Management in Hong Kong, is the Managing Director of ONESEA. “ONESEA marks the further development of the partnership between ONE and Seaspan by creating a powerful ship management company,” said Handa.
ONE is the sixth largest liner shipping company in the world after Hapag-Lloyd and is owned by the three largest Japanese shipping companies NYK, K Line and MOL. The company operates a fleet of more than 240 container ships with a capacity of 1.91 million TEU. A further 45 ships are on order.
