The Japanese shipping company NYK is establishing a joint venture with Eneos Ocean with the aim of building up a fleet of around 40 ships in the segment.
Tokyo-based NYK and Eneos Ocean are jointly founding NYK Energy Ocean (NEO). The new subsidiary of the Japanese shipping company is to operate a fleet of 40 ships in future. This includes 12 bulk carriers, 19 chemical and product tankers and 18 gas tankers (VLGC). The oil tankers are excluded from this.
The transaction is expected to be completed on April 1, NYK announced. NEO will be based in Yokohama. The aim is to achieve synergies with the NYK Group in order to achieve economies of scale, according to NYK.
Last July, NYK had already taken over a large part of the fleet of Eneos Ocean Corporation, formerly known as JX Ocean.
