With increasing digitalization, the amount of data on board a ship is also increasing. At an information event, the VDMA will explain how this data can be used to make ship operations more efficient.
The transformation in the shipping industry is in full swing. Owners have to deal with issues such as energy efficiency, emission reduction, alternative fuels and much more. This goes hand in hand with increasingly complex technology on board that produces more and more data.
The challenge here is to bundle and evaluate this data and translate it into concrete measures. With the MTP standard, the VDMA has created an interface that facilitates communication between the various systems on board.
VDMA event is aimed at shipowners
On November 7, the VDMA is offering an information event aimed specifically at German shipowners. At the 2nd MTP Round Table, participants will learn about the advantages of the MTP standard in ship operation, shipbuilding and conversion. Experts will be available to discuss with participants and explain how ship operators can quickly benefit from the advantages of the standard.
MTP stands for “Module Type Package” and, according to the VDMA, plays a decisive role as a pioneering solution for the intelligent networking of systems and the higher-level control level.
MTP already established in process technology
According to the VDMA, the rapidly increasing use of data on board, in particular the exchange of data between the numerous subsystems and the control level of ship automation, has so far been hindered by a lack of standards. This is where the Module Type Package, known from process technology, provides a concrete remedy: along the entire chain – from project planning and ship operation through to subsequent retrofitting or conversion – the interaction of the systems on board is greatly simplified. Sources of error and delays are avoided, as initial practical experience with the new standard impressively demonstrates, according to the association.
The 2nd MTP Round Table entitled “Smart Connectivity by MTP – Mastering Complexity through Modularization” will take place on 7 November from 14:00 to 16:30 on the premises of Siemens AG in Hamburg. More information about the event and registration can be found here.
