MPC Container Ships is apparently about to expand its fleet with four ships. The investment sum is US$180m.
In an announcement prior to a series of investor meetings, it is stated that four ships are involved for which a purchase option exists. These are units with 3,500 TEU to 4,500 TEU.
The wide-beam freighters, built as eco-designs, are, on average, around 10 years old. They are to be chartered out to one of the five leading liner shipping companies for three years from the first quarter of 2025. The resulting revenues amount to US$115m. The transaction will be financed by a mixture of debt and equity.
MPC expands fleet of 60 feeder vessels
MPC Container Ships currently has a fleet of 60 vessels with capacities between 1,000 TEU and >3,000 TEU and a total capacity of 132,000 TEU.
The possible purchase of the ships is not related to a planned new bond issue, it is further stated. Bonds with a total volume of €100m and a term of five years are to be issued on the Oslo stock exchange.
