The Dutch shipping company Wagenborg – active in the shortsea, MPP, tugboat and offshore markets – is expanding its fleet with the “Iana”.
The 5,050-ton vessel, which was only recently delivered from its shipyard, joins the fleet of shortsea market leader Wagenborg as a charter vessel. The general cargo ship was built by Thecla Bodewes, another Dutch shipyard, for its owner, Transtal Shipping.
“Welcome addition to the Wagenborg fleet”
The 2,999 GT vessel is “a welcome addition to the fleet”, according to a statement from the Dutch company. With a length of 87.30 m, a width of 13.70 m and a draught of 6.30 m, the ship offers a loading capacity of 5,050 tdw and a hold volume of 5,900 m³.
The “Iana” is reportedly equipped with an “innovative diesel-electric propulsion system, which is designed for fuel efficiency and sustainability and fits perfectly into the Wagenborg fleet”.
The shipping company now operates more than 160 vessels between 2,800 and 22,000 tdw. These include tugs, special offshore vessels and the Easymax series for the MPP market, from which another newbuild was ordered in fall 2024. Hamburg-based broker Toepfer Transport lists Wagenborg as the market leader in the shortsea business – both in terms of the number of vessels and deadweight tonnage (around 555,000 tons). The market share in this highly fragmented business is 3.73%. This puts Wagenborg ahead of Wilson (3.49%), Vertom (2.31%), Baltic Shipping (2.22%) and Arklow (2.08%).
