The German federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, together with the city of Frankfurt am Main, are jointly procuring eleven new fire-fighting boats. The contract awarded to Marine Alutech is worth more than €100 million.
North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Frankfurt am Main have ordered eleven new fire-fighting boats from shipbuilder Marine Alutech. The joint procurement project is intended to strengthen emergency response capabilities on the Rhine and Main federal waterways.
The contract is worth more than €100 million. The new specialised vessels are to be used for firefighting, technical rescue and hazard prevention on the water. They are intended to help protect the public, critical infrastructure and the environment.
Project and lifecycle management will be overseen by Marine Alutech in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. The company has production facilities in Finland and Germany.
The first vessel is expected to be delivered in early 2028, followed by a one-year trial under real-world operating conditions. The experience gained during this period will be incorporated into the series production of the remaining vessels. Delivery of the series-built vessels is scheduled to begin at the end of 2029 and be completed by mid-2032.
