Marinakis orders eight offshore vessels at once

Greek tycoon Evangelos Marinakis only founded his offshore subsidiary, Capital Offshore, at the end of 2023, and now he is ordering in bulk.

Evangelos Marinakis began acquiring a fleet immediately after founding Capital Offshore. Initially, this included seven former Norwegian units from the second-hand market, but now the first newbuilds are being added.

According to broker reports, the company has ordered eight so-called MPSVs (Multipurpose Supply Vessels) in China. The diesel-electric-powered vessels, almost 95 meters long (4,700 dwt), will be built at Fujian Mawei and are scheduled for delivery in 2026. The price has not been disclosed.

Unnamed Greek outdoes Marinakis

The offshore support vessel segment is booming. After several years of minimal orders during the downturn in the offshore oil market, growing global energy demand is driving up rates and increasing interest from shipowners looking to capitalize on this market.

Marinakis, however, is being outdone by a fellow countryman. An unnamed Greek is reported to have ordered as many as ten MPSVs at the same time, each slightly larger at 5,000 dwt.
