After the “Odisea”, the “Boardwalk” and the “Nausicaä”, the Lürssen shipyard has delivered another yacht this year, the “O3”.
The 107 m long and 18 m wide superyacht was originally known under the project name “Shackleton” . The ice-strengthened expedition yacht has a draught of 4.3 meters. It has a gross tonnage of 5,885 GT and a top speed of 20 knots. There is space on board for up to twelve guests and 22 crew members.
The project was first unveiled back in 2017 and construction began at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast, which belongs to the Lürssen Group. During the construction phase, the yacht changed hands and was transferred to the Lürssen site in Hamburg for final outfitting in 2022.
With the change of ownership, the design was also fundamentally revised. While the original design came from Salt Ship Design, the yacht was given a new look under the direction of Espen Øino Design. One of the most striking changes is an additional aft deck with a helipad. The Parisian studio CG Design is to be responsible for the interior design.
Thanks to its ice class 1B, the “O3” is designed for sailing in polar waters. In addition, the yacht has generous storage space for the tender, expedition equipment and water sports equipment, which underlines its character as an expedition yacht.
