The Dutch shortsea shipping company Longship has taken delivery of its next environmentally friendly general cargo vessel. The “Longsky” was delivered on 25 July.
The freighter, which the shipping company ordered together with the Norwegian shipbroker Wagle Chartering, was built at GS Yard BV in Waterhuizen.
Like its sister ship, the “Longsun”, which was delivered in April, the “Longsky” is a general cargo vessel with 3,700 dwt. She is expected to join Longship‘s fleet in the fourth quarter of 2024. The shipping company is thus systematically continuing the modernisation of its shortsea fleet.

The two ships were designed by Groot Ship Design. They have open cargo holds with a volume of approx. 5,100m3. The shortsea vessels are equipped with two bulkheads that can also be used as tween decks. They are designed for grain, timber and project cargoes and are powered by an IMO Tier III-compliant Mitsubishi S12R engine with an output of 749 kW.
The Norwegians will take over commercial operations from Wagle Chartering, while Longship will be responsible for technical and professional management.
The shipping company also recently launched another diesel-electric general cargo vessel at the Atlas shipyard in Turkey. The 8,600-tonne newbuild was christened “Longearth” and is scheduled for delivery in 2025.
