The German battery specialist Lehmann Marine has delivered its modular Cube system to China for the first time. The batteries are intended for the CTV “Aesen 116H”.
The 42-metre-long, modern hybrid crew transfer vessel was built for the Singapore-based operator Aesen. According to Lehmann Marine, the fully integrated hybrid propulsion system enables an estimated fuel saving of 30 to 40 per cent compared with conventional crew transfer vessels under comparable operating conditions.
The “Aesen 116H” was built by the Chinese shipyard Cheoy Lee Shipyards, and the hybrid propulsion system was integrated by Stin Global, a company specialising in maritime systems. According to Lehmann Marine, the project highlights the demand for European systems expertise in the highly competitive Asian shipbuilding sector. Class-approved safety and a high level of reliability play a decisive role in the selection process.
The “Aesen 116H” is used for high-frequency offshore passenger transport and logistics in offshore transfers. Lehmann Marine’s air-cooled Cube battery system handles, amongst other things, “peak shaving” and enables emission-free manoeuvres in port.
Certifications were crucial
According to Lehmann Marine, the selection of the battery system focused on high standards for crew safety as well as type approvals from the classification societies Bureau Veritas, DNV, Lloyd’s Register and Rina. The Cube platform, developed in Germany, features a modular architecture that allows individual components to be maintained and replaced directly on board. This reduces the need for time-consuming and costly stays in shipyards or dry docks, according to the battery specialist.
“Ease of maintenance is one of the practical strengths of our systems,” adds Alexander Lehmann, Managing Director of Lehmann Marine. “Our modular approach makes service and maintenance work considerably easier. Combined with our international service network, this gives operators the assurance that they can rely on support even after commissioning.”
Presence through the Sunlight Group
The successful commissioning in Asia is supported by the industrial manufacturing capabilities of Lehmann Marine , a company within the Sunlight Group. With an international production structure and an annual production capacity of more than 9 GWh in Europe and North America, the group combines specialised maritime systems expertise with a globally established supply chain. With this project, Lehmann Marine also aims to lay an important foundation for the further expansion of its business activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
