Korean Register highlights KR-DAON digital ecosystem

Regulations are tightening, but their precise structure continues to evolve. The IMO Net-Zero Framework, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime each add new layers of complexity to an already demanding compliance environment. For shipping companies managing vessels with operational lifespans of 20 to 30 years, the challenge is not only understanding today’s rules but also making investment decisions that remain valid as regulations continue to develop.

“Uncertainty cannot be eliminated,” says Lee Yongsok, Chairman and CEO of Korean Register. “But with the right data and analytical tools, it can be turned into a manageable risk. The question is no longer who moves first — it is who makes the most rational decision at the right time.”

To support this process, Korean Register has developed the digital platforms KR PILOT and KR POWER.

KR PILOT is designed to support decarbonisation planning by analysing fleet emissions, CII performance and the projected cost impact of IMO and EU regulations. The platform compares different compliance scenarios to help shipowners develop investment-based net-zero strategies.

KR POWER focuses on vessel operations. Using AIS data, weather information and fuel consumption records, it analyses vessel performance and identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

The two platforms are brought together through KR-DAON, Korean Register’s integrated digital platform. According to the classification society, this links strategic planning with operational verification in a single decarbonisation management workflow.
