Jastram highlights Active Noise Reduction technology

Low noise, high manoeuvrability: At SMM 2026, Jastram will present its portfolio of manoeuvring systems, turbocharger services and lifecycle support, with a particular focus on solutions for noise and vibration reduction in demanding vessel applications.

The Hamburg-based family company supplies bow thrusters with outputs from 50 kW to 1.2 MW and rudder propellers ranging from 50 to 450 kW. The portfolio covers a wide variety of vessel types, including workboats, naval and government vessels, offshore support ships, merchant vessels and superyachts. Alongside propulsion systems, Jastram also offers turbocharger maintenance and repair services as well as a global service network and certified service partners.

One of the highlights at SMM is the company’s Active Noise Reduction (ANR) system. Designed for bow thrusters, the technology reduces cavitation noise by injecting controlled amounts of air into the thruster tunnel. According to Jastram, this can lower noise levels by around 15 dB (A), depending on the vessel design, helping to improve onboard comfort. The system is suitable for both newbuildings and retrofit projects and can also be adapted to bow thrusters from other manufacturers.

All engineering, design and commissioning work is carried out in-house. Depending on customer requirements, Jastram supplies complete plug-and-play systems or individual components for integration into third-party propulsion concepts.

According to Hendrik Bruns, Director Sales & Marketing, onboard comfort remains one of the key trends in shipbuilding. Reducing noise and vibration, while maintaining manoeuvrability and performance, continues to be a major focus of product development.
