With ship no. 40, the combined fleet of SAL Heavy Lift and Intermarine is larger than ever. Both shipping companies belong to the Harren Group based in Bremen.
As the latest addition, the “Industrial Ursula” is now part of the Intermarine fleet. The subsidiary of the Hamburg-based heavy lift shipping company SAL Heavy Lift focuses on the North American market.
Both companies belong to the Harren Group. SAL was acquired in 2017, Intermarine in parts in 2020 and then completely in 2022; the two companies were merged four years ago.
Intermarine is part of the JSI Alliance
SAL/Intermarine also operates in the JSI Alliance with the Dutch shipping company Jumbo. Together, the three heavy-lift specialists have a fleet of 66 MPP freighters, heavy-lift vessels and special tonnage.
The “Industrial Ursula” is reportedly an optimised F300 design that was built back in 2008. It has a lifting capacity of 12,780 dwt. Two 150-ton cranes from NMF have a combined lifting capacity of 300 tons. According to Harren, the dimensions and equipment of the vessel are suitable for use on the North American Great Lakes.
Most recently, the group led by Martin Harren bundled its commercial activities in bulk shipping at Intermarine. The company is hoping for synergies with the MPP fleet.
