IMES unveils TCS-01CA-PMI combustion sensor

As emission regulations continue to tighten, optimised engine performance to reduce NOx and CO₂ emissions is becoming increasingly important.

The TCS-01CA-PMI is a two-stroke combustion sensor for the continuous measurement of cylinder pressure on two-stroke diesel and dual-fuel engines. Designed for 24-hour operation throughout the year, it has been developed specifically for electronically controlled engines and can be used as a replacement for the standard pressure sensor in PMI auto-tuning systems.

The connector is pin-compatible with PMI systems, while the plug-and-play design is intended to simplify installation. The sensor is installed in a specially designed adaptor between the cylinder cover and the indicator cock, reducing the build-up of combustion deposits on the sensor membrane.

According to IMES, the robust sensor design and closed sensor face reduce the risk of soot deposits during long-term operation. Combined with its thermodynamic characteristics, this enables cylinder pressure measurements with an accuracy of less than 1% full scale. The company also states that the sensor provides constant sensitivity without recalibration and has been designed for continuous operation over a period of three years.

The TCS-01CA-PMI has received type approval from Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, DNV, Korean Register, Lloyd’s Register and RINA.
