“Hanseatic Inspiration” docks at Lloyd Werft

Hapag-Lloyd is having another expedition cruise ship overhauled at Lloyd Werft. The class of the “Hanseatic Inspiration” is being renewed.

After completing a transatlantic voyage via England and Heligoland starting in South America, the German expedition cruise ship “Hanseatic Inspiration” docked at the Columbus Cruise Center in Bremerhaven (CCCB) for the first time on May 13. It then went to the neighbouring Lloyd Werft shipyard.

Scheduled maintenance and class work will be carried out on the 138 m long ship in the large Kaiserdock II until May 22, as Friedrich Norden, Managing Director of Lloyd Werft, explained. This is the second call of a ship of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ three-unit Expedition Class at the traditional Bremerhaven shipyard. It was only in November last year that the sister ship “Hanseatic Nature” was dry-docked in Kaiserdock I.

“Hanseatic Inspiration” receives technical maintenance

According to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, technical maintenance work will be carried out in addition to regular repairs. As part of the first shipyard period of the new expedition ship, which was delivered by the Norwegian Vard shipyard in 2019, the class will also be renewed by the classification society DNV.

After completion of the shipyard period, the “Hanseatic Inspiration” will set course again on 23 May from Columbuskaje via Binz/Rügen, Timmendorf/Poel, Wismar, Cuxhaven, Helgoland and List/Sylt to Hamburg, where it is expected to arrive on 31 May.

The “Hanseatic Inspiration”, like its sister ship the “Hanseatic Nature”, was built especially for expeditions to polar waters, among other places. For this purpose, it was equipped with ice class PC 6, the highest for passenger ships. According to the shipping company, the ship is equipped with environmentally friendly technology in order to travel with as few emissions as possible.

The maximum 230 passengers, or 199 passengers on expedition cruises in the Antarctic and Arctic, are accommodated in 120 cabins and suites on board. Most of the cabins and suites also have a private balcony or a French balcony.

This spring, the “Hanseatic Inspiration” successfully completed its first Amazon season. The ship sailed the river all the way to Iquitos in Peru, continuing the tradition of the “Hanseatic Spirit”, which had already sailed this route in 2023. This makes the shipping company currently the only international provider whose expedition ships travel this far into the Amazon. Other cruise ships turn back at Manaus in Brazil. (CE)
