Hamburg-based crewing specialist Danica Maritime is expanding its pool of seafarers with a new recruiting office in Indonesia.
From now on, Indonesian seafarers can also be placed via the global recruitment network, Danica has now announced. “This is part of our strategy to provide our customers with access to a broader and more diversified pool of crew members – while at the same time using a central point of contact,” it continues.
Indonesia is one of the world’s most important maritime nations. The country is characterized by a long maritime tradition, a large population and a strong interest among young people in a career in seafaring. “This makes Indonesia an important and promising source of qualified on-board personnel for the international shipping industry,” says the Danica statement. For shipowners, Indonesian seafarers would also represent a competitive option for ship manning – with salary levels generally in line with other major source markets and a smooth process for recruitment.
To date, the Danica team led by CEO Henrik Jensen has offices in Ukraine, Georgia, India, the Philippines, Greece, Cyprus and , most recently, Turkey. The new location will be managed by a local team whose managers are said to have extensive maritime experience themselves: as senior officers for European shipowners on bulkers and gas tankers.
Founded in its original form in 2019, the company says it works with a pool of more than 1,400 seafarers. A branch in St. Petersburg, Russia, was closed after the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Jensen still has big plans for his company “after a successful year 2025”.
