The Italian shipping group Grimaldi is strengthening its presence in China with a view to the growing automotive export sector.

Last week, Grimaldi Shipping Agency Shanghai, the Grimaldi Group’s representative office in China, inaugurated its new offices in Shanghai. The event was attended by the Group’s Managing Director Diego Pacella, Amelia Grimaldi and Luigi Pacella Grimaldi, Line Manager Euromed & Far East/Europe. [ds_preview]

The new offices are located in Sinar Mas Plaza, the tallest skyscraper in Shanghai’s old town, overlooking the Bund and Pudong, which are among the landmarks of the Chinese business metropolis.

The agency, which is currently managed by a team of 15 under the leadership of General Manager Francesco Zhou, was founded last year with the aim of providing the best possible service to the Grimaldi Group’s clients. It represents the Italian group in China and is particularly responsible for relations with local vehicle manufacturers.

In response to the growing demand for transportation from the main vehicle manufacturers, the Italian shipping company has been deploying its ships for regular connections to and from the Far East since 2022. The group currently connects China with the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and West Africa, calling regularly at the ports of Shanghai and Tianjin and also serving the ports of Yantai, Lianyungang and Xiamen.

Almost a year ago, the shipping company expanded its newbuilding program for car carriers to include orders. It is also focusing on ships that are “ammonia ready”. A Chinese shipyard is building seven PCTCs worth over US$630m for the Italians.
