The German KfW IPEX-Bank is financing the fleet renewal program of the British shipping company Carisbrooke Shipping with € 26 million.
The financing is covered by the Dutch export credit insurer Atradius. The funds will be used to finance two modern MPP freighters of 7,700 tdw each. The ships will be built at the Thecla Bodewes shipyard in the Netherlands.
Carisbrooke Shipping, headquartered in the UK, operates a modern fleet of multipurpose and general cargo vessels. The new vessels in the so-called “Labrax” series have diesel-electric propulsion systems designed for fuel efficiency and sustainability, as well as an innovative bow shape that also contributes to a good environmental footprint. A future conversion of the machines to CO2-neutral liquid fuels is possible. The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will be deployed in European short sea shipping.
“We are very pleased to support our new customer Carisbrooke Shipping with our financing for this European project,” said Andreas Ufer, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank.
The propulsion power on board the Labrax ships will be significantly lower compared to ships with the same cargo capacity and conventional propulsion. With a length of 118.60 m and a width of 14.30 m, the type has a cargo capacity of 329,700 cubic feet.
The order from Carisbrooke Shipping brings the total number of Labrax dry cargo vessels built by the shipyard to twelve, ten of which will be built for the Vertom Group in Rhoon, Netherlands.
