The management of the Van Oord family business is passing from the 4th to the 5th generation. Govert van Oord is to become the new CEO of the Dutch hydraulic engineering specialist.

Govert van Oord has been with the company since 2002 and has worked for Van Oord in the Middle East, Spain and Brazil, among other places. He is currently Managing Director of the Dredging & Infra division. [ds_preview]

The 53-year-old studied civil engineering in Delft and completed an MBA at IMD in Switzerland. The formal appointment is to take place at the Annual General Meeting on April 11, 2024.

Pieter van Oord led the dredging company as CEO for 15 years and has been with the company for a total of 30 years. He will move to the Van Oord Supervisory Board at a later date. It is also already certain that he will be nominated as the new CEO by the Supervisory Board of Dutch airport operator Schiphol.

“We congratulate Pieter on his proposed appointment as CEO of Schiphol, which is also a tribute to Van Oord given the great social importance and challenge of this role. We thank Pieter for his continued commitment and leadership. Through his entrepreneurship, Van Oord has grown from a dredging company into a broad-based maritime contractor. In particular, the growth in the offshore wind energy sector has resulted in Van Oord now being strongly positioned with two divisions (Dredging & Infra and Offshore Energy). The company makes a daily contribution to the major social issues of climate adaptation and the energy transition,” says the dredging company.

At the beginning of November, the company’s shipping division added its two latest newbuilds to the fleet as part of a double christening.
