Former DP World chief moves to Malaysia

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, former Chairman and CEO of DP World, will be working in Malaysia from now on. He is taking on the role of Group CEO at MMC Port Holdings on an interim basis.

Bin Sulayem takes over from Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, who, according to a statement, is leaving the company with immediate effect. No reason was given for his departure. Until a permanent successor is appointed, all matters relating to the Group CEO role will be taken over by Bin Sulayem. This temporary arrangement is intended to ensure corporate governance and decision-making whilst day-to-day operations continue.

Bin Sulayem had resigned as chairman and CEO of the port logistics company DP World in February. The reason for this was the publication of the so-called ‘Epstein Files’ by the US Department of Justice. Previously redacted passages in the documents pointed to a link between Bin Sulayem and the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison. DP World subsequently appointed Essa Kazim as Chairman of the company, whilst Yuvraj Narayan took over the role of Group CEO.

MMC Ports is Malaysia’s largest port operator. In total, the group’s portfolio comprises seven ports along the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
