EU creates new information portal for ship financing

The EU is launching a new information portal for ship financing. The aim is to facilitate access to capital and the environmentally friendly transformation of the shipping industry.

Launched by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, the new info portal aims to provide companies with the financial tools they need to drive fleet renewal and conversion, increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Info portal bundles important data

“The portal addresses the lack of available information on funding opportunities,” the European Commission has now announced. Among other things, it lists up-to-date information on available grants, loans and other financing products offered by the European Union, the Member States and public and private banks.

The portal also lists financing products relevant to the shipping sector to facilitate the development and deployment of technologies and services to promote the decarbonisation of shipping. “This is in line with the EU’s commitment to steer the maritime sector towards a green transition,” says the European Commission.

The “European Green Deal” commits all 27 member states to achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
