The Elbdeich shipping company is continuing its newbuilding program: Two more feeders with a capacity of 1,900 TEU each have been ordered in China.
The order goes to the Huangpu Wenchong shipyard. These newly ordered ships are scheduled for delivery in 2027, brokers report. The price is quoted at 32 million dollars per unit.
Just a few weeks ago, the Drochtersen-based shipping company, which is part of the USC Barnkrug group, confirmed an order for two 1,900 TEU vessels, which will be delivered from the fourth quarter of 2026. They have been described as “fuel-efficient”, with the option of converting to alternative fuels at a later date, without providing further details.
Elbdeich was founded in 2004 by the shipowners Heinz Moje, Peter Frese and other partners. Jens Moje joined shortly after the company was founded in 2006, but only recently withdrew from the company’s operational business.
Elbdeich operates 33 ships
Today, the shipping company is a firm fixture in the feeder shipping industry and operates a fleet of 33 ships. The highlights of 2024 include the commissioning of the 5,500 TEU flagship “ZIM Yangtze”, which was christened in Korea in February, and the completion of a newbuilding program of six low-emission 1,380 TEU container ships.
Previously, the sister ships “Elbbridge” and “Elbtower”, each with a capacity of 1,380 TEU, were delivered in September. Both feeders will be chartered for five years from Ellerman City Liners, a niche provider in global container transportation.
Elbdeich and Nordic Hamburg had ordered a total of ten SMB vessels from the Jinglu shipyard. The other Elbdeich ships are on charter with Unifeeder and Tailwind Shipping Lines. The shipping company Nordic Hamburg has placed its four units with BG Freight Line.
