Eckship, based in Eckernförde, has confirmed a newbuilding program for up to six heavy-lift vessels. The vessels are scheduled to join the fleet at regular intervals starting in the second quarter of 2028.
The heavy-lift shipping company Eckships, based in Eckernförde, has now confirmed a major newbuilding program. The plan is to build up to six new heavy-lift vessels. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2028 and will follow at short intervals.
The vessels will be designed for project cargo and flexible heavy-lift operations. As the company announced in a statement, the vessels will have a deadweight tonnage of 15,200 dwt at a draft of 8.5 meters.
The design includes a forward bridge and two cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 350 tons. When operated in tandem, they are expected to be able to lift loads of up to 700 tons.
The hold capacity is specified at approximately 28,000 cbf. The long hatch measures 114.1 m. In addition, there is a clear deck area of 139.0 × 23.2 m. The equipment includes adjustable intermediate decks at various heights. The intermediate deck pontoons are also designed to function as bulkheads.
The newbuilds are also designed for open-top and hatchcoverless operation. They are also said to be suitable for the Great Lakes. The company plans to provide further details in the run-up to the upcoming Breakbulk trade show in Rotterdam on June 16 and 17.
