Dr. E. Horn develops products and services for systems around the engine, covering the entire lifecycle from installation and retrofit to long-term operation. The company’s portfolio focuses on the physical and virtual security and resilience of critical equipment.
At SMM 2026, Dr. E. Horn will present the CLDM, a measuring tool that enables engine crews to determine liner wear on two-stroke engines independently and at any time. Measurements are carried out through the scavenge ports without removing the cylinder head.
The CLDM is based on the company’s eddy current sensor technology, which has also been used for many years in the HORN bearing monitoring system. The device is calibrated for individual cylinder bores and has been developed for onboard use. Measurement data is analysed automatically and documented in a report generated by the accompanying software.
According to the company, the system allows crews to monitor liner wear without relying on shore-based service support. As measurements can be carried out whenever required, the condition of cylinder liners can be assessed more frequently and maintenance planned accordingly.
