Customs discover cocaine on freighter from Colombia

Investigators in German port of Wilhelmshaven have discovered millions worth of drugs on a ship from Colombia – hidden in fishing nets.

Five packages wrapped in fishing nets contained 150 packets of cocaine. The total of 153 kg is said to have a street value of several million euros, according to the Hanover customs investigation office and the Oldenburg police.

In addition to the Joint Narcotics Investigation Group (GER) of the Hanover Customs Investigation Office and the Oldenburg Central Criminal Investigation Department, the “Port Investigation Group” of the Hamburg Customs Investigation Office, the Wilhelmshaven Border Control Unit and boat crews from the water customs office were also involved in the operation, which lasted several days.

The Oldenburg public prosecutor’s office has taken over the investigation. The task now is to determine the exact circumstances of the smuggling and identify possible suspects. After being recovered from the ship, the narcotics were stored in a safe place.
