China’s state-owned shipping group is continuing to invest in its fleet of heavy-lift and specialized vessels, with six new 60,000-tonne vessels slated to construction.
The shipping subsidiary “Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers” is collaborating with financial partner Bocomm Leasing on the newbuildings, reported by several brokers.
According to the report, Bocomm Leasing has placed an order for six 60,000-tonne multi-purpose vessels with CSSC, another state-owned shipbuilding group. Chengxi Shipyard is named as the shipyard. After delivery, the MPP Heavy-lifters will enter into a 15-year bareboat charter with Cosco. Further details on the ship type and equipment have not yet been disclosed.
Cosco has invested several times in the Group’s various fleets in recent months, for example in pulp freighters, car carriers as well as MPP and Heavy-lift vessels. Most recently, a semi-submersible with 70,000 tonne DWT was ordered from GSI.

In total, the subsidiary operates more than 100 vessels, including MPP, heavy-lift, car carriers, deck carriers, semi-submersibles, timber carriers and asphalt tankers.
