The Finnish rotor sail manufacturer Norsepower is expanding its cooperation with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (CHIC).
As the Finnish company announced, an agreement has been signed that follows on from the previously announced memorandum of understanding.
According to the agreement, the cooperation will cover large parts of the value chain in the future. These include production, sales, installation, service and joint technical developments.
The aim is to expand production capacities for Norsepower Rotor Sails and accelerate the use of wind propulsion systems in international shipping.
According to the company, Norsepower will primarily contribute its experience in rotor sail technology, control systems and the further development of the systems. Chic will contribute manufacturing capacity, installation expertise and a global service network. The agreement also includes a roadmap for the further development of the cooperation.
The demand for wind propulsion is growing rapidly as shipowners look for practical and proven ways to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Expanding high-quality production capacity is therefore crucial to meet market demand,” says Norsepower CEO Heikki Pöntynen.
“By deepening our collaboration with Chic, we are creating a strong foundation to scale the production of Norsepower Rotor Sails and accelerate the adoption of wind propulsion in global fleets,” Pöntynen continues.
