Chipolbrok orders newbuildings in China

A ship from an ongoing series of newbuildings has just been christened and now the MPP carrier Chipolbrok is ordering more units.

The Chinese-Polish shipping company Chipolbrok has ordered newbuildings again after a four-year break. Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) has secured the order for up to four 38,000-tonne heavy-lift vessels.

Just three weeks ago, the “Boym“, the sixth and final newbuilding with a carrying capacity of 62,000 tons, was christened and put into service. These MPP freighters were built by Chengxi Shipyard, also in China.

They are each 199.9 m long, 32.26 m wide and have a draught of 13.5 m. The crane capacities on the port side are 2 x 80 tons fore and aft and 2 x 150 tons amidships.

New Chipolbrok series is smaller

Slightly smaller freighters with three 250-ton cranes are now following. For ZPMC, it is the entry into the construction of MPP heavy-lift vessels. The price was not disclosed. Market experts estimate it at just under US$50m per ship. Delivery is scheduled for 2026.

Chipolbrok was founded back in 1951. The current fleet comprises 33 ships with a total of 1.2 million dwt. These include ten so-called “Orkan” types of 30,300 dwt each and four “Pacific” types (31,600 dwt).
