The MPP shipping company Chipolbrok, which is also well known in Germany, has added the next newbuild in a series of 62,000-ton vessels to its fleet.

A few days ago, Chipolbrok christened the “Yu An”[ds_preview].

The large MPP freighter with a carrying capacity of 62,000 tons is 199.9 m long, 32.26 m wide and has a draught of 13.5 m. Five cargo holds have a total capacity of 75,000 m³. The crane capacities on the port side are 2 x 80 tons fore and aft and 2 x 150 tons amidships.

The state-owned Chinese-Polish joint venture had ordered a total of six units of this size. The ships are being built by the Chinese shipyard Chengxi Shipyard.

Chipolbrok relies on large project landings

The “Yu An” is the fifth ship in the series, which will be successively put into service since the delivery of the “Tai Xing” in 2021. “Herbert”, named after the Polish poet, playwright and essayist Zbigniew Herbert, “Pilecki”, named after the Polish officer Witold Pilecki and “Yong Xing”, named after a region in the Chinese province of Hunan, are also part of the series. They are to be used primarily in the Asia-America trade. The shipping company’s ships are also frequent guests in German ports, especially in Hamburg, even if they are not entirely satisfied there.

Among other things, the focus is to be placed on the ever larger cargo units that are shipped for the wind energy industry, for example. “This additional modern tonnage will greatly increase our potential for the transportation of large volumes of project cargo, including oversized and heavy units, as well as larger quantities of bulk and breakbulk cargo,” it was said at the time when the ship details were announced.

The Chipolbrok fleet now comprises 30 vessels, including ten so-called “Orkan” types of 30,300 tdw each, four “Pacific” types (31,600 tdw) .
