The East Frisian shipping company Briese is continuing to expand its fleet in the bulker segment.
Two newbuildings will soon be joining the fleet of the shipping company, which is primarily known for its activities in multipurpose/heavy-lift, container and research shipping.
The latest addition to the fleet is the “BBC Apollo”. The 40,000-tonner has successfully completed its sea trials, as Briese has now announced on social media. The 180 m long handysize bulker was built in China at the Jiangmen Nanyang shipyard and is to be deployed in the fleet of Briese subsidiary BBC Chartering in future.
Briese newbuild “BBC Ceres” launched
The “BBC Ceres” was presented as another newbuild of this size. It has now been launched in China and will “contribute to the development of the Briese fleet together with other new ships”, according to the company.
Most recently, the 40,000-ton bulk carrier “BBC Mars” was put into service. The Leer-based company worked on the bulker series together with the Norwegian investor Ness, Risan & Partners. The charter contract runs for “17 to 19 months”.
NRP had secured the bulker together with Briese via a so-called resale, i.e. the takeover of an existing newbuilding contract with the JNS shipyard in China. Despite their focus on the breakbulk, MPP and heavy-lift market, the Leer-based company also regularly handles bulk and neo-bulk cargoes. Due to increasing demand, the company decided to invest in its own ships.
The fleet development also includes various newbuilds from the container and MPP segments. Most recently, the box carriers “Langeness” and “Norderney” from the feeder segment were delivered. A total of 12 feeder ships were ordered. In addition to six “Sdari 1800” vessels from Huanghai, a further six, somewhat larger units with 1,900 TEU are being built by Guangzhou Wenchong. In the MPP segment, Briese had put the “Ukraine” newbuilding series for F500 ships into service.
