Baumüller showcases BAS-Link DC-Grid energy platform

The maritime industry is facing the challenge of efficiently connecting different power sources and consumers, from conventional diesel generators and methanol gensets to batteries and fuel cells.

Baumüller will present its BAS-Link DC-Grid energy distribution platform, which uses a shared DC bus to coordinate different loads and energy sources. The system enables direct connection via a central DC onboard network, reducing efficiency losses and increasing overall system efficiency. It also supports the integration of alternative energy sources such as batteries and fuel cells, providing a flexible energy supply for both propulsion systems and onboard electrical consumers.

The control and DC cabinets are based on a modular concept. According to Baumüller, the scalable architecture allows a space-saving layout while supporting balanced weight distribution throughout the vessel. The cabinets can be installed in different locations, enabling the power supply to be adapted to a range of ship types.

The company will also highlight its BAS-PCS power management system for diesel-electric hybrid propulsion systems. The software controls the power output of the propulsion units according to demand, integrating not only the main propulsion system but also auxiliary equipment such as bow thrusters and shore power generators.

According to Baumüller, the system adjusts the energy supply using variable-speed gensets to generate only the power required for the vessel’s current operating condition. The aim is to improve energy efficiency, operational reliability and the utilisation of available power.
