More and more shipping companies are relying on battery solutions for ship operations. Manufacturer Leclanché is also benefiting from this.
“Important milestones” have been reached in various areas, the Swiss battery specialist Leclanché announced today in a review of the year 2023[ds_preview].
The maritime industry is considered an important segment. Battery orders for a “wide range” of applications were received over the course of 2023. These include RoRo ships, tugboats, jack-up vessels and ferries.
In collaboration with Stena RoRo and Brittany Ferries, the company has received orders for 22.6 MWh of battery systems for hybrid ferries. This is “one of the largest orders in history for ships of this type”, it says.

In addition, the Grimaldi Group ordered further battery systems for its new series of so-called “eco-ships”. This increased the number of ferries with Leclanché batteries from 9 to 11.
According to the Swiss company, it has been able to expand its influence in the maritime sector with further contracts. For example, there are contracts with Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL), Brunvoll, Lafarge and Cadeler.
