“Baltica 2”: first foundations in place

The first foundations for Poland’s largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea have been installed. Once fully commissioned in 2027, the “Baltica 2” project is expected to achieve an output of around 1.5 GW.

The wind farm is being realized by the companies Ørsted and PGE. Van Oord has been commissioned to install the monopiles. The company will install a total of 111 monopiles: 107 as foundations for wind turbines and four for offshore substations. The installation work is scheduled to last until the fourth quarter of 2026.

The monopiles for “Baltica 2” are around 100 m long, have a diameter of more than 10 m and weigh an average of 1,500 tons. Once installed at sea, the structures are designed to operate for up to 30 years. According to the information provided, each monopile has an individual geometry that is adapted to the respective location.

The “Baltica 2” offshore wind farm is being built, owned and operated in a 50:50 partnership between the Danish company Ørsted and Poland’s largest energy company PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. The wind farm is being built around 40 km off the Polish coast near Ustka and is scheduled to be fully operational in 2027.
